Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Museum Assistant to join our team in the Aerospace and Defense department. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the daily operations of the museum, enhancing visitor experience, and contributing to the preservation and presentation of our extensive collection. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a stimulating environment that celebrates the history and advancements in aerospace and defense.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Visitor Engagement:
- Welcome and assist visitors, providing information about exhibits, programs, and museum activities.
- Conduct guided tours and educational programs for diverse audiences, including school groups, families, and specialized interest groups.
- Respond to visitor inquiries, ensuring a positive and informative experience.
2. Exhibit Support:
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and de-installation of exhibits, ensuring compliance with safety and preservation standards.
- Monitor exhibit conditions and report any issues related to artifacts, displays, or visitor concerns.
- Support the development and implementation of new exhibits and programs related to aerospace and defense.
3. Collections Management:
- Aid in the cataloging and documentation of artifacts and archival materials within the collection.
- Assist with the conservation and preservation of items in accordance with established protocols.
- Help maintain accurate inventory records and digital databases related to the museum's collection.
4. Administrative Duties:
- Support the administrative team with scheduling, event planning, and logistics for museum programs and special events.
- Assist in marketing and promotional activities to enhance public awareness and engagement with the museum.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
5. Research and Development:
- Conduct research on aerospace and defense topics to support exhibit development and educational programming.
- Collaborate with other museum staff and external partners to enhance the museum’s offerings and community outreach initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Education, or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in a museum, cultural institution, or educational environment.
- Strong knowledge and interest in aerospace and defense history and technology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with digital museum collections management software is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 kg.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary.
