Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Art Critic Assistant to join our dynamic team in the vibrant retail art scene of Dubai. As an Art Critic Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the lead art critic in conducting reviews, research, and analysis of contemporary artworks and exhibitions within retail spaces. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with artists, curators, and collectors while contributing to the broader conversation about art in the retail environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Research and Analysis:
- Assist in researching contemporary art trends, artists, and exhibitions relevant to the retail sector.
- Compile and analyze data on art sales, consumer preferences, and market trends to inform critiques and articles.

2. Writing and Editing:
- Support the lead art critic in drafting and editing articles, reviews, and opinion pieces for various publications and platforms.
- Ensure all written content is engaging, well-structured, and adheres to established editorial standards.

3. Exhibition Support:
- Attend gallery openings, art fairs, and other events to gather insights and materials for reviews.
- Document and photograph exhibitions, installations, and art pieces for reference and publication.

4. Networking and Collaboration:
- Cultivate relationships with artists, gallery owners, and other art professionals to stay informed about upcoming exhibitions and trends.
- Collaborate with marketing and promotional teams to enhance the visibility of art projects and critiques.

5. Administrative Duties:
- Organize and maintain a database of artists, exhibitions, and relevant contacts within the art community.
- Assist in scheduling meetings, interviews, and appointments for the lead art critic.

6. Social Media Engagement:
- Manage social media accounts related to art critiques and promote articles and reviews to a broader audience.
- Engage with followers and the art community to foster discussions and feedback.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Journalism, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in art criticism, journalism, or a related field, preferably within a retail context.
- Strong writing, editing, and research skills with a keen eye for detail.
- A deep understanding of contemporary art, trends, and the retail art market.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for writing, research, and social media management.
