Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Book Preservationist to join our team in Dubai. As a Book Preservationist, you will be responsible for the care, repair, and restoration of our extensive collection of books and manuscripts in an educational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing the condition of books and manuscripts in the collection
- Developing and implementing preservation plans to prevent deterioration
- Conducting conservation treatments to repair and restore damaged materials
- Collaborating with librarians and archivists to prioritize preservation efforts
- Providing guidance and training to staff on proper handling and storage techniques
- Monitoring environmental conditions to ensure optimal preservation of materials
- Researching and implementing best practices in book preservation
- Maintaining detailed records of conservation treatments and ongoing preservation efforts
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Conservation, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in book or paper conservation
- Strong knowledge of preservation techniques and materials
- Experience working with rare books and special collections is preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Familiarity with conservation software and tools
