Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Fisheries Technician to join our dynamic team in the retail sector, specializing in fish and seafood products. This position will play a critical role in maintaining the quality and sustainability of our fisheries operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing exceptional service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Quality Control:
- Monitor and assess the quality of fish and seafood products to ensure freshness and compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of incoming products to verify their source and quality.
- Implement and maintain quality assurance protocols to uphold the highest standards.

2. Inventory Management:
- Assist in managing stock levels of fish and seafood products, ensuring sufficient supply while minimizing waste.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of products and maintain strong relationships with vendors.
- Keep accurate records of inventory, sales, and product expiration dates.

3. Sustainability Practices:
- Promote and implement sustainable fishing practices in line with local and international guidelines.
- Educate staff and customers on the importance of sustainable fisheries and responsible seafood consumption.
- Stay informed about trends in sustainable fishing and seafood sourcing, adapting practices as necessary.

4. Customer Service:
- Provide knowledgeable and friendly support to customers, answering queries about fish species, cooking methods, and sourcing.
- Assist customers with product selection, ensuring they receive the best quality and appropriate products for their needs.
- Conduct demonstrations on seafood preparation and cooking to enhance customer experience and promote product sales.

5. Technical Support:
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of aquaculture equipment and systems used in fish storage and display.
- Collaborate with the operations team to develop and implement innovative solutions for fisheries management and retail display.

6. Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure that all operations comply with local health and safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, following proper sanitation procedures.

7. Training and Development:
- Participate in continuous professional development to stay updated on best practices in fisheries and retail management.
- Provide training and support to new staff members on fisheries products and customer service standards.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the fisheries sector, retail, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of fish and seafood quality assessment and sustainability practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Familiarity with local and international fisheries regulations and standards is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with inventory management systems.
