Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Archivist to support our archival efforts in the energy sector. The successful candidate will assist in the organization, preservation, and management of historical documents, records, and materials related to our operations in the energy industry. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accessibility and integrity of our archival collections, contributing to the documentation of our corporate history and supporting research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Archival Management: Assist in the organization and categorization of archival materials, including documents, photographs, digital files, and audiovisual materials, ensuring they are properly stored and preserved.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all archival materials, including their location, condition, and any relevant metadata, using archival management software and databases.
- Preservation Activities: Implement preservation techniques to protect archival materials from deterioration, including environmental monitoring, conservation treatments, and digitization projects.
- Research Support: Assist staff and external researchers in accessing archival materials and provide assistance in locating specific documents or collections as needed.
- Exhibition and Outreach: Collaborate with the team to develop exhibits, presentations, and outreach materials that highlight the significance of our archival collections in relation to the energy sector.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of archival policies and procedures that ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements regarding record-keeping and information management.
- Training and Education: Participate in training sessions to educate staff about the importance of archival practices and the proper handling of historical documents.
- Project Assistance: Support special projects related to the archival program, including inventory assessments, digitization initiatives, and the development of archival finding aids.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in archival work, records management, or a related field, preferably in the energy sector.
- Familiarity with archival standards, practices, and preservation techniques.
- Proficiency in using archival management software and databases.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- This position is based in Dubai, UAE, and may require occasional travel to various company sites.
- The Assistant Archivist may need to work in an office environment and handle physical archival materials, including lifting boxes and standing for extended periods.
