Position Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Fisheries Biologist to join our dynamic team in the consumer goods sector. This role is crucial in ensuring the sourcing and management of sustainable fish products, aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible sourcing. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in aquatic ecosystems to support product development, sustainability initiatives, and compliance with local and international fisheries regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Research & Analysis:
- Conduct comprehensive research on fish populations, aquatic ecosystems, and habitat conditions.
- Analyze data related to fish stocks, including growth rates, reproductive cycles, and population dynamics.
2. Sustainability Initiatives:
- Develop and implement strategies for sustainable sourcing of fish and seafood products.
- Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental standards and certifications.
3. Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay updated on local, regional, and international fisheries laws and regulations.
- Ensure that all sourced products meet the legal and ethical standards for sustainability and quality.
4. Product Development:
- Work closely with product development teams to provide insights on sustainable practices and innovative product offerings.
- Assist in the evaluation of new fish species for market potential and environmental impact.
5. Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders, including governmental agencies, NGOs, and fishing communities.
- Participate in forums and workshops to promote sustainable fishing practices and share best practices.
6. Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor and assess the health of fish stocks and ecosystems related to company operations.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on findings and recommendations for management.
7. Education & Training:
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on sustainable fisheries practices and environmental issues.
- Conduct awareness programs to promote responsible consumption among consumers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years to a maximum of 7 years of relevant experience in fisheries biology or a related field, preferably within the consumer goods industry.
- Strong understanding of aquatic ecosystems, fish biology, and sustainable fisheries management practices.
- Familiarity with ecological modeling and data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant data analysis software.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with sustainability certifications (e.g., MSC, ASC).
- Knowledge of local and regional fisheries in the Middle East.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
