Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Museum Archivist to join our team in Dubai, specializing in the fields of Aerospace and Defense. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in archival management, preservation techniques, and information organization, along with a passion for promoting and preserving the rich history of aerospace and defense technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collection Management: Oversee the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of archival materials related to aerospace and defense. This includes documents, photographs, artifacts, and digital records. Ensure all items are properly indexed and stored in accordance with best practices.
- Research and Documentation: Conduct thorough research to enhance the understanding of the collections. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including finding aids, inventory lists, and archival descriptions that facilitate access to the materials.
- Exhibition Development: Collaborate with curatorial and educational teams to develop engaging exhibits that highlight the significance of the aerospace and defense collections. Assist in the design and layout of exhibits, ensuring historical accuracy and educational value.
- Public Engagement: Serve as a point of contact for researchers, historians, and the general public seeking access to the archives. Provide assistance in navigating the collection and conducting research inquiries.
- Preservation and Conservation: Implement preservation strategies to protect archival materials from deterioration. Work with conservators to assess and treat items as needed, ensuring the longevity of the collection.
- Digital Archiving: Develop and maintain digital archives, including digitization projects and online access initiatives. Utilize technology to enhance user experience and expand the reach of the collections.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the formulation and implementation of archival policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards in the management of collections.
- Collaboration and Networking: Build relationships with other institutions, archives, and professional organizations within the aerospace and defense sectors. Participate in conferences, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to stay current with industry trends.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Archival Science, Library Science, History, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in archival management or a related area, preferably within a museum or historical setting focused on aerospace and defense.
- Strong understanding of archival principles, practices, and technologies.
- Proficient in digital archiving tools and software, as well as database management systems.
- Excellent research, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with preservation techniques for both physical and digital collections.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of aerospace and defense history and technologies.
- Experience with public programming and community engagement initiatives.
- Proficiency in a second language is a plus.
