Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Horticulture Assistant to join our healthcare team in Ras Al Khaimah. The successful candidate will support the horticultural activities within our healthcare facility, focusing on creating and maintaining therapeutic gardens and green spaces that enhance the wellbeing of patients, staff, and visitors. This role will involve working closely with horticulturists and healthcare professionals to implement plant care routines, assist in garden design, and promote the therapeutic benefits of horticulture.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Garden Maintenance:
- Assist in the upkeep of indoor and outdoor gardens, ensuring plants are healthy and thriving.
- Perform regular watering, pruning, fertilizing, and pest management on a variety of plants and landscaping features.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are clean and in good working order.
2. Plant Care:
- Identify plant diseases and pests, and apply appropriate treatments as guided by the horticulturist.
- Propagate new plants and assist in the selection of plant varieties suitable for therapeutic environments.
- Monitor soil conditions and make recommendations for soil improvement as needed.
3. Therapeutic Horticulture:
- Support the design and implementation of therapeutic gardening programs aimed at improving patient outcomes.
- Assist in conducting gardening activities with patients and healthcare staff, fostering engagement and participation.
- Document and report on the progress and impact of horticultural therapy interventions.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with healthcare professionals to understand the specific needs of patients and how horticultural practices can support their recovery and wellbeing.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving the healthcare environment through horticulture.
- Educate staff and patients on the benefits of gardening and plant care.
5. Administrative Support:
- Assist with inventory management of plants, tools, and supplies.
- Help maintain records related to plant care, garden activities, and patient engagement in horticultural programs.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge in horticulture and therapeutic practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional horticulture or agriculture training is a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
- Knowledge of plant species, gardening techniques, and pest management practices.
- Experience in therapeutic horticulture or working in healthcare settings is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
Skills:
- Attention to detail and a strong aesthetic sense for garden design.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
