Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Museum Technician to join our dynamic team in Abu Dhabi, specializing in Aerospace and Defense. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for preserving and interpreting the history of aerospace and defense technologies, and will play a crucial role in the maintenance, preservation, and display of our unique collection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collection Management: Assist in the cataloging, documentation, and management of artifacts related to aerospace and defense. Ensure that all items are accurately recorded in the museum’s database and maintain up-to-date records.
- Preservation and Conservation: Implement preservation techniques for artifacts, including cleaning, repairing, and restoring items to ensure their longevity and integrity. Conduct regular assessments to identify conservation needs.
- Exhibit Preparation and Installation: Collaborate with curators and exhibit designers to prepare and install exhibitions. This includes constructing display cases, arranging artifacts, and ensuring that exhibits are engaging, informative, and accessible to visitors.
- Research and Interpretation: Conduct research on artifacts and historical contexts to provide informative content for exhibitions and educational programs. Develop interpretive materials, including labels and brochures, to enhance visitor understanding.
- Visitor Engagement: Assist in providing guided tours and educational programs for visitors, sharing knowledge about the significance of aerospace and defense artifacts. Engage with the public to promote the museum’s mission and programs.
- Inventory Management: Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure proper tracking of all collection items. Assist in the development of policies and procedures for collection care and management.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other museum staff, volunteers, and external partners to coordinate projects and events. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall strategic goals of the museum.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in museum work, collection management, or conservation, with a focus on aerospace and defense preferred.
- Knowledge of preservation techniques and conservation best practices.
- Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and engagingly.
- Proficiency in museum databases and collection management software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a passion for educating and engaging the public.
Work Environment:
This position may require occasional evening and weekend work for special events or exhibitions. The Museum Technician will primarily work in a museum environment, with exposure to various artifacts and collections.
