Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to join our team in Dubai within the telecommunications sector. The RSO will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards related to radiation exposure, while promoting a culture of safety within the organization. This role requires a thorough understanding of radiation safety protocols, risk assessment, regulatory requirements, and the application of best practices in telecommunications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Radiation Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain radiation safety programs and policies in accordance with local, national, and international regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of telecommunications facilities to ensure compliance with radiation safety standards.
- Monitor radiation levels and maintain accurate records of measurements, incidents, and compliance activities.
2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Perform risk assessments related to radiation exposure and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, ensuring the safety of employees, contractors, and the public.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to evaluate new technologies and installations for potential radiation exposure risks.
3. Training and Education:
- Design and deliver training programs for employees on radiation safety practices, emergency response procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Provide guidance and support to staff on the safe handling and usage of radiation-emitting equipment.
4. Incident Response and Reporting:
- Respond to radiation-related incidents and emergencies, conducting investigations and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
- Prepare reports and documentation for regulatory agencies, management, and stakeholders regarding radiation safety practices and incidents.
5. Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay informed about changes in radiation safety regulations and standards, ensuring that the organization remains compliant.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and participate in inspections and audits as required.
6. Collaboration:
- Work closely with various departments, including engineering, operations, and health & safety, to promote a holistic approach to safety management.
- Participate in safety committees and contribute to the continuous improvement of workplace safety culture.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in radiation safety, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
- Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of radiation safety regulations and standards (e.g., IAEA, NCRP, local regulatory requirements).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and engage employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and software related to radiation monitoring and safety management.
